Mountain Bikers?

Postby njonesy_07 » Mon Nov 07, 2011 2:28 am

Anyone of you fellow waterfowlers enjoy time riding the singletrack or bombing down through rock gardens? If so, I wanna give a shout out to those members who ride during the off season....post up where you typically ride, bike set up, pictures and preference of riding (AM, XC, DH, FR etc etc.)

I'm looking forward to see who rides here, and seeing some pictures of you set ups

Its spring riding season, I know there are some guys out there on the trails riding too. I've been putting in quite a few miles myself as of late, especially with the nice weather we've had the last few days.

nice ride. i used to race dh and was sponsored by maxxis tires and a local shop. used to ride all the time til i broke my hand since then its tough to hold on for more than an hour or so. i still have my 3 bikes i have 2 konas a stinky w/ marzocchi 66, a built up cowan ss for dirt jumps and urban and my built dh race bike a balfa bb7. we went to whistler,bc for our honeymoon and i got to ride the mountain and trails out there. they're nothing short of amazing and i loved it even though my hand wasn't. i wish i could ride more than an hour or 2 without the pain. the bikers around here hate hunters esp deer hunters, but then again lots of people hate hunters in ct. they think we're a bunch of hillbillys and animal torturers.

I know this is an old post but I used to love riding in the Allegheny National forest. I got started riding in 1988 following a trip to Telluride where I first climbed on an MTB. The bike was crap but I came home and bought a Diamond Back Apex with all Shimano Deore equipment. I paid 600.00 for the bike which was a lot of money back then. The bike was a hard tail and had a set of straight steel front forks, so you felt every pebble in the road. This was before suspension and virtually no bike out there had any type of suspension, but Rockshock was working on a front fork back then. My buddie Ken and myself went almost every weekend to the forest and bombed down all the fire roads and knocked out some grueling uphills to. We had the place all to ourselves back then. The hero's of the day were Ned Overend, John Tomac and Sara Balantine, all in the HOF now. I remember my bike had "Farmer Johns Tractor Tires" which were standard issue on a lot of bikes back then. My buddy rode a" Mongoose IBOC Pro" which was a legitimate bike back then, not like they are now. Then one day in about 1996, my bike was stolen and I never replaced it. Times and circumstances changed and I haven't done any riding since then, but I remember those days like they were yesterday although the bikes now days don't resemble anything like the bikes of yore. Enjoy the sport and the scenery. It's a great time.....
