camping equipment

Postby shrpshtr » Wed Jun 01, 2005 8:19 pm

getting the camping bug got me thinking. several factors (time, objective, etc.) determine most of the stuff i take to the woods with me when go camping. but there are certain things that go regardless of what the occasion. what are your "must haves" when you take to the woods for a few days? a few of mine...

-eureka tent (family of personal)
-streamlight scorpion flashlight
-glock field knife
-sleeping bag
-fire starting kit (includes multiple ways to get a fire going)
-first aid kit
-cast iron skillet w/utensils
-perculator (gotta have my coffee)

let me add:
- compass
- replace the eureka with an REI 2-person
- replace the flashlight with a headlamp
- just about any folding/fixed blade knife (poor quality excluded)

so other than substitutions a compass is paramount. also a map of the area in which you are camping, unless it is one of those KOA type campgrounds.

My ruger 10/22 always goes camping with me. You'll never know where you'll see some squirrels. AK wait till you get married! Then your a heavy packer (at least your group is).

Other than that your lists sound just about right
