Weatherby Vanguard .223

Postby grandquay » Wed Aug 26, 2009 2:02 pm

I'm just going to start doing a little varmint hunting this fall/winter. This gun seems like a pretty decent gun for the price. $399 at Cabelas. Does anyone have any experiences (good or bad) with this particular gun? Any info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jake

My dad has one in 7mm and I won one in "06. I think they are made by Howia. I dont like the flat screws for the action, but those can be replaced for a few bucks. We glass bedded them, loc tited bolts and polished the bbl's. They both are sub- moa rifles at 100yds, moa to 300yds. He has used his to harvest 30 plus deer, mine is a back up rifle. I really cant say anything bad, but I would look at CZ Brno too !

I just bought the Vanguard last weekend from Cabela's in .223 for yotes. I put a Bushnell DOA Trophy 4-12x 40mm scope on it and sighted it in for 100 yd. It shoots really smooth. I sighted it in using Fiocchi 50gr V-max rounds and they shot great. I Tried sighting it in at first with cheap full metal jacket rounds but it seemed to spit them around the target. When I switched to the V-max bullets it shot like a charm with a tight 3-round group from 100 yd.

Prob just the barrel breaking in or could be just cheap ammo. Figure out your bbl twist rate and then use the proper ammo.
