25-06 for coyotes

Postby #1jumpshooter » Tue Jan 08, 2013 8:32 pm

Now i no it will kill them guys so lets keep the smart comments to a minimum. I have put basketball size holes in a few coyotes with my 7mm rem mag. and was wondering about this caliber. What I want to know is anyone has first hand experience with the result to the hide from a 25-06???

Puts a hole about the size of a softball through them depeding on where you hit them, I haven't found a bullet that doesn't blow them up yet.

For the 22-250 I'd reccommend you go with the 52 grain Speer, usually it won't exit in my experience.
Edit: Actually the bullet is a Speer 52 grainer.

here is the exit hole from my 25-06. I shoot 85 grain hornady ballistic tips. This fine lady was about 300 yds out when i poked her.

The front one in this pic was also shot with my 25-06. He is getting tanned at the moment but I shot him while he was quartered to me thru the neck and out by the ribs. The taxidermist told me that the exit was the same size as the entrance and missed any large bones.

From what I have found with about any rifle. The distruction happens when the bullet hits a thick bone. Same goes for a 25-06.

I can't help you on the factory ammo as all I've ever shot is reloads through rifles.

I've always used a 22-250 one yotes, untill recently. Now im using a 243 shootin Hornaday 52gr. It's really doing a good job. There is a few spots we hunt that the shots are less than 75 yds(due to heavy brush) I usually use a 22 mag when we hunt those places. I've hunted deer with a 25-06, to me thats a lotta gun for a yote.
