Rattling noise during acceleration.

Postby tklikely » Tue Feb 15, 2011 7:31 pm

Ok, I know this is a long shot but I am looking for some ideas on things that I could check myself. I have an '04 Chevy Trailblazer that has a rattling noise when accelerating. It lessens the faster I go. Once I am at higher speeds (50 or so), it stops. It is also accompanied by kind of a whining noise like the engine isn't warmed up (but it is). It seems both sounds are coming from under the hood. It was recently fixed from hitting a deer but it had the whining noise before the accident. The "service engine soon" light is on but I would guess it is unrelated because it was on long before the noises. I may end up calling the shop that fixed it. Thanks, Troy

"Bend over and I'll show you."

"I wasn't talking to you."

I had an 2003 Chev. Z71 that had a buzzing noise described just like yours. It was a heat shield on my transmission. Upon acceleration, it vibrated against the exhaust crossmember. i bent it back and good as new.

The body shop said it was the bearings going out on the water pump causing the fan to nick the shroud. It is in the shop now so we will see if they were right. The diagnostics said the service engine light was cooling system related so the body shop may be right.

defitly check clamps and heat shields. took my friend for ever to figure out a rattle turns out it was a loose clamp on his exaust.

Just got it back from the shop, they said it was the bearings on the water pump. They put in a new one and the noise is gone.
