12 volt socket at hitch

Postby Wi Browndog » Sat Sep 17, 2011 11:48 am

I bought a 7 RV Blade to 5 and 4 Wire Flat with 12-volt socket adapter. All trailer lights run as normal but I'm not getting any power at the socket. Any thoughts as to the issue?

What truck?

You could have a bad connection where the power and signal wires come to the recptical. I know on my truck there is a block where the power wires for the trailer light recptical and tail lights plug in and I've had those plugs come loose, I'd check those the plug block should be inside of the rear frame rails or up above/ around the spare tire usualy on the driver's side.

But you may also have a bad adapter, I'd check it with a multi-meter

My truck is a 2002 Chev 2500HD. When it didn't work on my neighbor's truck, it didn't take too much searching to find that there wasn't a fuse in the spot. A large 40amp spade and it now works.

Correct. GM doesnt put a fuse in the location from the factory.
