Another thing to consider is which other fats are in your waste vegetable oil. Since it's waste, you can't necessarily count on resturaunts segregating meat fats from the veggy fats. You'll want to take steps to remove any tallow from the recovered grease. Fats containing tallow may (in the short term) improve compression in a well beat upon engine.
You also have to make sure there there is no moisture in the oil. Leaving it set, undisturbed, for a few days will allow any water to settle. The particulates will settle out as well. You still need to filter but that will be easier if you siphon off the top of a settled drum of oil.
