Noise coming from clutch.

Postby tknight006 » Thu Aug 16, 2012 5:57 am

I bought a 2000 Tacoma yesterday and for the most part, its in excellent condition. However, while driving, I hear a very faint squealing sound coming from the truck (I associate the sound with a belt of some sort) Anyhow, it has something to do with the clutch because whenever I put the slightest amount of pressure on the clutch, the sound stops. I only hear it when my foot is completely off the clutch.

Any advice on where to start would be great. I want to make sure the truck is ready for hunting season.

The truck has about 145k on it. I don't know much regarding the maintenance because I just purchased it.

The throw out bearing seemed to be the general answer I found when I googled it.

Is this something that I should change right away?

If you're gonna have the trans pulled n a throw out bearing in I'd do clutch n all. The labors already going into it so all your spending additional is parts and saving having to potentially spend the labor again in a few months.

throwout bearing, Have the clutch replaced while your at it. I always have the clutch and pressure plate checked, Sometimed they need to be resurfaced and it is better to do it all at once.

I would bet 95% sure its a throw out bearing also. Replace the clutch for sure since most of the labor involved is in dropping the tranny.
TO bearing could last another 100,000 or it could go out tomorrow. It is just one of those things that is not always predictable.
