Synthetic Oil question

Postby Slack Tide » Wed Jul 31, 2013 10:01 am

2013 GMC Sierra first oil change....3000miles

The mech tells me that it needs dexos...never heard of it.
He tells me that he uses another brand with dexos but not the AC Delco brand itself.
The onboard computer says that I am "62% through the life of my oil"......suggesting that the truck should be changed at 5000 many synthetic oil changes are...

The manual calls for 7500??
it also says that "if the onboard computer resets accidentally, have an oil change within 3000 miles of your last service..
It all sounds like conflicting info and I have NO idea what to make of all of this, but:

A) I plan on keeping the truck for a loooooooong time
B) I don't want any warranty BS problems...

Can anyone make sense of all of this please?

I have a 2000 Ford Excursion I bought it brand new, took it home and dumped the oil right away. I put Mobil 1 Synthetic in. I change the oil every 5000 miles. Truck now has 204000 + miles on it, no problems. :clapping: This year I bought a 2013 F-150 eco boost, ran the factory oil for 1000 miles, dumped it and now running Mobil 1 Synthetic. I will change it every 5000 miles too. :grooving:

Do you mean Chevron Delo oil?

I see nothing confusing about the recommendations given for your new truck.
The computer takes many operating conditions into account when calculating oil life. If it recommends a change before the 7500 mile max is reached then change it. Otherwise, change it at 7500 miles.
If the service interval is inatvertantly reset, and you don't know how long it's been since the last change, then change it within 3000 miles.
Often wrong, never in doubt...
