Mobil 1 Annual Protection

Postby MinneKans » Thu Mar 30, 2017 12:23 pm

Mobil 1 is advertising a one year/20K mile oil (requires a special filter). Your thoughts?

Yeah I don't know about that... I kinda like getting a few done a year so that everything can be lubed and checked out too...

I'm a huge fan of Mobil 1. Ran it for years changing it every 10k. But 20k? I don't know if I'm ready to jump on that

20000 miles between oil changes seems like a lot but then many modern vehicles don't require a major tuneup until 100000 miles. Back in the day I would do tune ups on my cars every 15000 miles or so and oil changes at no more than 5000 miles. So I guess oil changes with synthetic oil and special filters now a days makes sense at 20000 miles.

My vehicles can't keep oil in them long enough for that nonsense. Plus I like to see things every couple months to stop any bad things before they're catastrophic things
Sometimes I think...
'Do I really want a beer?'
Then I remember there's a supervolcano under Yellowstone that is 40,000 years overdue, and when it erupts, it could potentially cover most of North America... and I'm like,
F YEAH I WANT A BEER!

I don't trust it. I think they're catering to the irresponsible adult that neglects maintenance.

Whether the oil is changed every 3000 or every 20000 you should check under the hood periodically. I don't use the oil change as the only time I check fluid levels and other things under the hood.
