Planning a vacation-trip to the Bahamas and heard somewhere about Duckhuntin´ around the Islands.
I´ve been googleing my eyes out but cant find any information. The only Waterfowl links I´ve found are dead
I wish I knew as well. There are some cool species there and wouldn't think with the large fishing/tourist economy somebody wouldn't have something? From doing some searching there was somebody doing it but their website is no longer up. Maybe email a few people running fishing trips down there to see if they know of someone?
i would like to know more about waterfowlin in the area as well. i just got back from the dominican republic and drove all around the country and dern if there isint ideal habitat. endless flooded rice fields, marsh, rivers, bays etc etc. from what i read in the tourist book there is 14 species of ducks there. i didnt see any.. but i was going 150 kph dodging moto cocho's and dump trucks. ive read in old books about serious waterfowlers in cuba. i figured the birds would be getting there right about now (late dec. early jan., and stick around till march / april. ) its probally blue wing city down there right now with all this snow and ice.!!!!
I just went with my girlfreind to visit her family in the Caymans right after new years. I had just got done with an awesome Kansas hunt so I was all fired up about ducks and as we were leaving the airport a saw about a dozen birds on a little pond near the runway. I later found out that over half that island is a giant swamp. I was thinking the same thing, I wonder how many ducks overshoot Cuba and end up on Grand Cayman. I didnt dare bring it up for fear of my girlfreind clawing my face off.
Many teal head right south into South America. Whistling ducks are also found throughout the Caribbean. I also saw a bunch of white-cheeked pintail in St. Maarten. It's more a matter of the legalities and finding an outfitter.
It's easy for them. Apparently Cuba is one of the more favored destinations in the Caribbean, you know, less Americans there :hi: They can hop on a plane and go. Unless you have some special exemption (family), you can't legally go to Cuba. Lots of Americans do it by flying to Canada or Central America first and then hopping another plane over. No stamp on your passport, apparently you can pull it off. But I don't like the idea of being in a foreign country where I can't call the embassy if trouble arises. Besides, I can hunt with a bunch of Cubans anytime I want, where US-41 meets the marsh!
Very true on US41 and the Glades lots of Cuban duck hunters; I would really like to hunt in the Bahammas, but I can never find any solid information out about seasons/outfitters/etc. I can see going to Cuba w/o passport stamp, but not to hunt; firearms and illegal entry do not seem like a good combo!
Thanks for the link. Looks as though the main species that one would specifically target in the caribbean are off limits: no tree duck and no bahamian pintail.

No doubt bahamian pintail was my thoughts in the bahamas...
