Boise State University Champions?!

Postby Team Get Some » Sat Aug 21, 2010 9:04 am

What does everyone think? Should BSU have a chance if they go undefeated again at a national championship game? Each year it seems there are indecision when it comes to this topic. Can a team from Idaho really compete against the likes of Texas and Alabama or if they face larger teams like this will they get obliterated? I know that they don't have the strongest schedule strength but no one can deny they have dominated the WAC and hopefully now that they've switched conferences they'll get a little more respect!

that's the thing, they're competition allows them to get through the season unscaved, hold a couple, like really two, worthy opponents in the regular season.

that's my beef w/ them. they're legit, but it not's fair because of their conference opponents.

they're playing va tech in the opener aren't they this year?

Indecision? I don't think so. Should they have a chance if they go undefeated? Too many if's involved. If they go undefeated and no one else takes care of business, they should get a chance. But all the whinin' and gripin' has afforded them a gift...an undeserved preseason ranking high enough to guarantee them a shot if they just go undefeated. Maybe the football gods and fate will even intervene, and match them up with an Ohio State or TCU and they could even win it all. But in reality, Boise would be a middle-tier SEC team at best.

The respect they'll hafta earn, though, and thus far they haven't. I'm an SEC fan. How's Boise fared against SEC teams?

In 2000 Boise was undefeated in conference (10-2 overall)...and lost to Arkansas 38-31
In 2001 Boise was 8-4...and lost to South Carolina 32-13
In 2002 Boise was undefeated in conference again (12-1 overall)...and lost to Arkansas again 41-14
In 2005 Boise won their conference (9-4 overall)...and lost to Georgia 48-13
In 2007 Boise lost the conference head-to-head against undefeated Hawaii (who was also screaming for respect)...that went on to lose in the Sugar Bowl to Georgia 41-10

Now, just beat one middle of the road SEC team, or Big Ten team, or even ACC team every year and we'll talk about respect. Don't tout your record until it reflects respectable wins. Yes, jumpin' conferences will help. 'Til then, enjoy your gift!

They did beat a decent team last night, not a real top twenty team, but a decent one. Virginia Tech was overrated...as usual, made a ton of mistakes in the first game of a rebuilding year, spotted Boise 17 points and lost a close one in the last two minutes. We'll see how they fare the rest o the year, and Boise fans should hope they do well. Just think, all the hoopla and pressure Boise had for that game against a decent opponent, the only one you'll play the entire regular season. That's the way it is every week for teams in the SEC or Big Ten and most every other BCS conference. Business as usual.

How would you like to play Florida, Alabama, Ohio State, or even a lowly Michigan or Penn State next week? It's the way most teams garner respect, by doing it week in and week out every year in real conferences. Not to take anything away from Boise, they looked good. But let's be real and take it for what it was...a good showing for a solid # 18 or so team, not the # 3 team in the country.

I agree that Boise State can be a little over rated because of their strength of schedule. The whole problem is that isn't their fault ya know?! We haven't always done well against those major teams but we get like 1 chance a year which totally sucks. Cause then everyone bases their bias off that one game. I know VT gave up a lot of points and made mistakes but so did BSU that's football...

i don't think that va tech isn't a top tier team. not sure how good they are, but they are good in my opinion.

my problem, again, w/ boise state is that their season will get easier as the season goes on. only a couple good oponets.

season is early, let's not crown or count anyone out yet.

You just made the whole argument against Boise, Team. What else can I add? Boise plays one decent game a year and eleven patsies to prepare for a bowl game...so they deserve a spot in the National Championship Game? They snuck past a decent Virginia Tech team that went 10-3 last year and only returned 10 starters...so they deserve a spot? Alabama will play at least 5 teams currently ranked in the top 25 and the champ from the other half of the SEC which will be ranked, yet if they lose one game while Boise is playin' New Mexico State or San Jose State or Fresno State...they don't deserve a spot?

The only argument can be strength of schedule if you don't play anyone. So give me a legitimate argument. Who has Boise beat and who do they play? I'm all ears. How do you think Boise would honestly fare with Alabama's schedule this year. Be honest...

09/04/10 vs. San Jose State Tuscaloosa, Ala. W, 48-3
09/11/10 vs. Penn State Tuscaloosa, Ala. 6:00 p.m. CT
09/18/10 at Duke Durham, N.C. 2:30 p.m. CT
09/25/10 at Arkansas * Fayetteville, Ark. TBA
10/02/10 vs. Florida * Tuscaloosa, Ala. TBA
10/09/10 at South Carolina * Columbia, S.C. TBA
10/16/10 vs. Mississippi (HC) * Tuscaloosa, Ala. TBA
10/23/10 at Tennessee * Knoxville, Tenn. TBA
11/06/10 at LSU * Baton Rouge, La. TBA
11/13/10 vs. Mississippi State * Tuscaloosa, Ala. TBA
11/18/10 vs. Georgia State Tuscaloosa, Ala. 6:30 p.m. CT
11/26/10 vs. Auburn * Tuscaloosa, Ala. 1:30 p.m. CT

*Plus the SEC championship game if they make it

Noticed Boise lost 7 of their 8 first place votes in the AP this week. They need to win big from here on out and hope the big boys start hammerin' on each other. James Madison nullified your first win... :hammer:

IF we had a playoff i would want them in it and think they could go far.

BUT with the current system no, them undefeated means nothing. when they play # 5,6,7, and 12 then i will think their season is tough enough to be worth consideration.

I think Boise is very, very talented, but like everyone else said, they play a cupcake schedule. The VaTech win looked impressive, until week 2... The WAC is a joke, which doesn't help their cause either, but unfortunately, them moving to the MWC won't help a whole lot either. If they beafed up the non-conf schedule with top 10 or top 15 type teams, such as a Florida State, Miami, Penn State, or Oklahoma type squad, that would definately boost their credibility. However, I still think that they would be a middle of the pack type team in the Big 10, SEC, or even the Big 12 for the most part... I think they'd get dominated by an Ohio State or Alabama... Just a thought, but I'm not a Boise fan either, nor that ugly blue turf

The problem is ... none of teams will man up and play BSU. But then again why should they ... their conference play is tough enough, so why would they want to get beat up in a non-conference game. Bring on Duke I say!
