Word of the Day, June 4, 2014

" As for me and my house we will serve the Lord. We will serve the Lord. Idols raised, tear them down, cause we will serve the Lord. We will serve the Lord. To one king we bow down. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. "

Joshua 24:11-15

11 And ye went over Jordan, and came unto Jericho: and the men of Jericho fought against you, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; and I delivered them into your hand.

12 And I sent the hornet before you, which drave them out from before you, even the two kings of the Amorites; but not with thy sword, nor with thy bow.

13 And I have given you a land for which ye did not labour, and cities which ye built not, and ye dwell in them; of the vineyards and oliveyards which ye planted not do ye eat.

14 Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD.

15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

This chapter is Joshua's last message to the Israelites. He gathers them to relate God's benefits and he renews the covenant between God and them. He reminds them about where they came from, over the Jordan and into Jericho and reminds them how God delivered all their enemies (the "ites") into their hand. Joshua reminds them how God took care of the Amorites for them with no sword or bow.

Joshua then went on to reminded them that God gave the land with no labour, the cites that were already built for them. He said do you remember the vineyards and oliveyards that you ate from, yet never planted them? He tells them to serve the LORD in truth and sincerity.

Let's move this forward about about 3400 years and are we listening to Joshua today? It still applies even today. Do we remember what God has done for us? Everything comes from Him. Life, breath, hands and feet, work, house, cars, money, family, food, clothes and everything that we need is from our Father God. Just like the Israelites, we too must decide if we want to serve our gods or obey the only one true God. It is easy to slip out of the will of God or to rebel, but a time will come when you have to choose who or what controls you. The choice is ours. Will it be God or our own gods? What is your choice? It is a easy choice for me, " As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."

" Blessed be the name of the Lord. Blessed be Your name. Blessed be the name of the Lord. Blessed be Your glorious name."
