Word of the Day, June 6, 2014

" I'm forgiven . I'm forgiven. And I don't have to carry the weight of who I've been Cause I'm forgiven.”

Proverbs 6:27-28

27 Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?

28 Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?

How close to the fire can we get without getting burn? Today’s Word of the Day is for mostly the men out there that read this. Porn, what a destroyer of men, marriages and families. It starts out small, with soft porn, a magazine like Playboy then leads to harder and filthier stuff and even violence, videos, internet and often to cheating on your spouse. Just so that you know, just because you don’t actually have sex with someone else, does not mean you did not cheat on your spouse. Matthew 5:28 states clearly what Jesus shared with us: “ But I say unto you, that whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after he hath committed adultery with her already in his heart." Pretty clear right? It is even printed in red in the King James Bible to denote that Jesus said it.

In 1989, Dr. James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family interviewed serial killer Ted Bundy just before he was put to death and here is what he said: Despite growing up in an almost idyllic Christian home, Bundy said that his moral values were subverted by the softcore pornography he discovered outside his home as a preteen. The addiction led him to view materials that were not only pornographic but also violent in nature. "The wedding of those two forces - as I know only too well - brings about behavior that is too terrible to describe," said Bundy. “Sadly, Bundy was right,” Dobson said. “Pornography has been found in the possession of almost every killer where sex was the motivation."

Like most sin, it starts out small, a little bit of dirt in our heart, then seeds are planted and our sin continues to grow. As I have learned as I fellowship with other men, many of them are porn addicts. I used to look at porn when I was younger and gave it up 20 plus years ago. Thank you LORD for not letting it control me or to ever again have a desire for it. However, I am certainly guilty of looking at beautiful woman. I have to force myself not to do it daily. I ask God for help to stop me from doing this daily. What goes in the eyes, goes into the mind and heart.

Today, we are so saturated with sex, TV shows, magazines, movies, internet, billboards and advertising everywhere. Most movies and TV shows show adultery openly. Sexual innuendoes are everywhere we turn. We need to reach out to God for strength to fight these temptations and through Him, it is the only way we can beat this temptation of lust that fills our heart.

This Sunday, get to a good Bible preaching church and get done to the alter and lay this addiction at Jesus feet, asking Him to forgive you and seek Him each day and not the lust of our own heart. Men, love your wife and not someone else’s wife. Men, love your wife, not some woman in a magazine or a video. Men, love your wife and not some stranger that you lust after. Men, just love your wife!
