First Deer with a Bow...

Postby realmaineduckhunter » Tue Sep 15, 2009 10:41 am

So I got my first deer with a bow yesterday afternoon. Had this nice doe come and feed under an apple tree. She gave me my first shot at about 8-10 yards...I pulled back, put the pin on her and released the arrow, too bad I didn't look thru the peep sight....but she gave me another chance, she walked right towards me and stopped broad side at about 5 yards, this time I looked thru the peep and put the pin on her and released. She ran to the right with tail down and right into another shooting lane and stood there broad side at about 20 yards...I launched another one, missing her and she ran off. I soon heard her lay down. After a short tracking job and team effort gut this is what I got....and oh yeah...this was only my 3rd sit....beginners luck I guess..... ;)

Congrats. Looks like the second time you put a good shot on her. Killing anything with a bow is just too much fun.

Our season started today but I won't be able to go out until tomorrow afternoon. Even then I'm just going to hang a stand and potentially sit for a bit.
It's a fact that 70 percent of the people who purchase heavier tackle do so with the categorical I just lost a huge snook! Einstein Hairdo. The other 30 percent have either Tarpon Fever or are sporting a hand cramped into a claw from a deepwater grouper.

You son of a gun. We don't open up for 2 more weeks, not that I'm going anyway. Congrats on your first bow kill. I haven't gotten one yet. Kinda sad when an archery tech hasn't shot a deer with a bow. :fingerhead: Good luck on future outings.

Nice job puttin a big doe down! I think they are just as hard to harvest as a buck with archery equipment.

Congrats. Just got my first deer today as well. I shot my doe at about 15 yards. I thought I missed her because she ran off and my arrow was stuck in a tree behind where she was standing. I put my binoculars on the arrow and saw blood on the fletchings. Complete pass through and that arrow still stuck in the tree. Anyway were you shaking when you were getting ready to shoot? I was shaking like a leaf!! I'm glad I got one down with my bow, but I'm worried I might be shaking so bad if a good shooter buck comes in I'm afraid I'll miss! Congrats on your harvest!!
