has anyone tried killing ducks with archery equipment? I'm thinking about carrying my compound to swat cripples and maybe my recurve and some flu flus to try some of that relentless pursuit stuff
might want to check local laws I know you are not allowed to carry both a bow and long gun at the same time here. probably be more expensive than just shooting some cheap loads at cripples anyways and harder if they are 40yds out or better. I dont see much since in shooting cripples with a bow, would loose a ton of arrows in water and just tear up the meat, and take more time to put them out of their misery.
I'm pretty sure you can carry both here but I'll check, thanks for bringing that to my attention. And in my experience shooting carbon arrows in water they float and I mostly hunt ponds so I won't lose arrows making it cheaper that swatter loads. and using field points puts one small hole through the bird. you'll tear more birds up shooting blind side and black cloud then you will with an arrow. I don't know if you ever shot a duck with a bow but every duck I've seen killed with an arrow even with field point is dispatched very quickly, and they die with one shot 9 times out of 10 ten instead of wasting 2 extra shells and part of the time still not killing the bird. As long as it's legal it would be a cheaper and more effeicient method then swatter loads in the long run. Just saying but a person should do what works best for them if you're not confident in your abilitys with a bow then no I don't think you should try it out of respect for the bird, but to each his own.
If you can easily get your arrows back then i think that would be a cheaper and a whole lot easier way for killing cripples. I bet that would be fun too! Oh and watch out for your arrows skipping off the water!

yeah if you can get them huming birding in your face I bet it can be done, and you'd have to shoot flu flus to get your arrows back and to make sure that you wouldn't be flinging arrows off in the distance and possibly hurt someone. Yeah I can't say I'd try it either if all I had were 45 yard open water passing shots dc
I've never actually done it but back when I was able to shoot a recurve I used to practice on clay pigeons thrown out of a mecanical thrower. I probably only hit 2 out of 25 (straight away) but miss the rest by very little..... Incoming or outgoing birds would be the easiest. I'm considering picking up a 40-45# recurve and trying it on decoying canadas. I noticed flu flus are now getting close to $9-$10 each and the water woud kind of screw up shooting them a 2nd time till they dry out. I don't know if all states allow it but we can hunt small game either with flu flus or arrows with 5 or more fletch. I have 6 fletched arrows with plastic vanes and they slow down almost as much as a flu flu.........
I haven't tried ducks but have had some success with pheasants using my longbow. If you ptactise using plastic bottles thrown by friends, you teach yourself to be a snap shooter. That screwed me up for sure. I began snap shooting everything. I quit!!
Im sure Its legal, you will need to check the laws of that area. Go you youtube and search mallard madness. Its the first one. Rick Dunn from echo calls, one of the biggest waterfowl hunters in the world is bowhunting for ducks in a timber hole.
