.22 revolver: Ruger Single Six VS Heritage Rough Rider

Postby JB09 » Sat Jan 22, 2011 12:47 pm

I’ve done my research and am currently talking to two sellers. One is selling Heritage Rough Rider with a 4’’ barrel. The other is selling a Ruger Single Six. From my understanding the RR is a beater gun and the SS is a nice top of the line .22. New a SS goes for around $500. While the RR retails for around $150-200 new. I’ve been looking for used prices online and in a Firearms price book but can’t decide what is the right price. Both of these guns have been shot and are older revolvers. I know that the SS is from 1975. Ruger gives a lifetime warranty and the RR doesn’t. What are the used prices for these guns? I’ve read online that the RR used can be as cheap as $70 and the SS can be bought used for around $150. I live in Northern VA so prices tend to be higher around here. Thanks in advance for your thoughts and comments.

I had a ruger single six when young and it was a great pistol and even better with the mag cylinder!

Many a squirrel and rodent bit the dush on the leves in calif when we drove up and down the gravel back roads.

Enjoy.

I had a Heritage about a year ago. For the price, it was a good gun. I had no problems with accuracy or anything with it. I bought it because it was cheap and I wouldn't be out 600 bucks if I dropped it in the creek or lake when I was trapping. The only reason I sold it was because I haven't had time to trap here lately and I wanted to pick up a generator to bowfish.

The single six will last forever. The rough rider will not.

poker1 unfortunitly I have only seen the $170 ruger ss online... I'm looking foward to going to some gun shows, hopefully i can find a deal there. Both of the guns I'm looking at are single action but what other .22 pistols worth buying?

I'd get that SS in a heartbeat at that price. Great gun if you wanting a singla action revolver. Especially with the mag cylinder too. I have a S&W 22A that has been great. Like a semi auto myself.

I have had both and the Ruger is a MUCH better revolver. The RR I had became loose and sloppy after several hundred rounds and you could wobble the cylinder quite a bit, The accuracy fell off drastically as it started to wear. I would go with the Ruger.
