It depends on what your going to do of course and how much you might want to spend. The 17 will outshoot everything else you listed, but the ammo it a little more pricey, and as for varmints, 17s are great cause they're so accurate, but that little tiny 17gr bullet holds you back. A .22 will do better when you place the shot where it needs to go. The 10/22 has an endless supply of aftermarket parts and is the standard in rimfire bullseye competition. If you want an accurate fun gun, maybe some small game, and are not shooting thousadnds of rounds, then a 17 is good. If you get obsessed with accuracy, plan on upgrading and shooting tons of $ammo$ then go with the 10/22, lots of offerings from eley for match ammo and the sky is the limmit for customination, lots of it you can do yourself.
