You need to go to the gun store and hold it for yourself. Does it feel right to you? Some gun stores have indoor ranges with gun rentals for possibley the weapon you want to purchace. Kinda nice to test drive before you purchace.I have owned a ruger security 6 w/4in. barrel 357. Junk. Now have S&W686pp 6.5in barrel. Very accurate.paid $600.a little pricey, but you get what you pay for. And I load my own ammo. Don't let any one sway you from the 38spec. My wife has the S&W mod.36 w/2.5in.barrel.and I load a 158 grn hp in sierra, speer or remmington.+P.That load croneys to about 950fps.Good people stopper. For home defence think quick reaction time,C.Q.B. My weapon of choice though is my S&W M&P 45ACP.Great shooting weapon for myself, maybe not for other people. Different strokes, for different folks. Hope that helps.
