DOnt bother with the HMR a waste of money IMO. The ammo prices are nuts you can shoot UMC .223 ammo for the same price and have more knock down power.

I shoot Yellow Jackets or Stingers.

Your other choice is the 17 mach2 I have one and its a sweet little gun with more knock down power than my .22 I find but a little more $$ to shoot. I think I pay 8$ CDN for 50 rounds.

well what you need to do is sell your .22 and buy a .17 rifle that .17 makes the .22 useless

aguila makes a 60gr subsonic called subsonic sniper, but they dont have any more power than u have now.

the only thing better than stingers that ive used are the Velocitors. they also have a much better hollow point with a poly filled tip. i think they are 40gr at 1400fps the stingers are 32gr at 1600, but i never got better than 1540 on the chrony.

i just shoot rem subsonics anymore because they are nice with a silencer..... they also open up better because they are soft lead. they wont exit a cat... but they sure make a mess inside

I have shot 22's for 38 years and have shot everything for the CB shots at 760 fps to the stinger & velositers at 1600fps plus.

Also the 22 mag, but that is a whole new thing !!

The 22 is a wounderful cartridge but speed is not always the best !! They might all shoot pretty well at 25 or even 50 yards
but not many will give 1" groups at 100 yards in a standard rifle
with a 4 power scope!!

My Marlin auto and Win pump will only cut 50 yards.........where my
Rem bolt action is the only rifle that can place a group at 100 yards
on a CALM day.

Only lots of target practice and several loads will let you know what "Your gun" likes best.

Good hunting.

if you want more power go for the 17 HMR. I have been taking large ground hogs at 150yds for 2 years now. They dig huge holes around our pond and I wanted something with less noise than my 223. I can shoot this out the back door to the pond and not shake the windows.

On the .22 LR the stingers and Velocitors are the same basic thing as is the Quick-shok. but argulia Sniper is a bit different animal. it is a heavier and slower bullet rather than the faster lighter.

I have found thru testing that I get better accuracy and penetration from standard velocity loads. there was also a write-up in a recent magazine with a lot of testing. They put the stingers (and other hypers)up aginst sub-sonic and std velocity loads. the sub sonics penetrated just as far as the hyper velocity stuff does. there was something about that "crack" where it brakes the sound barrier that actually really slows the bullet down. They stated that at 100 yds the hypers and sub-sonics were traveling near at the same velocity.

wf;
correct ! Lots of test confirm that fast is not always better.

That is why most serious target shooters shoot std or sub-sonic
40 grain ammo !!

Almost all of the $$$ target loads are of this type.

CCi, Federal and Winchester all put out good ammo..........
I never found a Rem load that worked for me... in the
low cost ammo.

Same here on the remingtons.

Federal has the best customer service I have used. I had a "Milk carton" of the federal 22's. about 50% would not shoot. I contacted federal and they admitted to a bad spinner on the line that forces the priming compound to the rim. I had to send them the bad ones(they sent UPS to pick them up) they then sent me 4 bricks (2000 rounds) of the game shok to replace the bad box. 2000 rounds does not last long but not one bad in the replacements and fantastic accuracy.

Once the 700 rounds of stingers and 600 rounds of velocitors are gone I will stick to the federal game shok. So far they work the best in all my 22's. My ruger target will cut a nickle size hole at 50yds.

I still have not found a good round for my buckmark or single six.

I tried 7 different types of .22 in my marlin 25n bolt action.
The remington cyclone worked the best.
My son's ruger shoots the stingers best.
Sagebrush is right. You have to try different loads for EACH gun.

aguila "interceptor" is probably most powderful on game, but the supermax has a bit more energy to start

interceptor: 40gr @1470fps @192ft/lbs
velocitor: 40gr@1435fps @183 ft/lbs
stinger: 32gr @1650fps @193 ft/lbs
aguila supermax: 30gr @1750fps @204 ft/lbs
aguila SSS: 60gr @950fps @121 ft/lbs
