New 410 pistol ?

Postby Sagebrush » Thu Oct 11, 2007 10:53 am

Was watching a gun show last night about those that like
shooting revolvers and how to load, shoot & empty them,
like a pro.

They let gravity, help them out and there are a few ways to grip & "feel" the weapon for a better use of the weapon.

At the end they showed a pistol that used instead of the 38 and
40 stuff, but of all things , 410 shells.

They fires it at a target 20 feet away............"Holly Cow" !!

Did not get the name, since it happened so fast and it was at the end of the show.

Sure got me thinking, though.

Sage....

There have been a few companies over the years that have made the .410 pistols either in single shot or a revolver. But non have had the reviews liekt he Taurus. It is amazing what a lil advertising can do.

I read an article a long time ago about guys turning 45 colt revolvers into 1 3/4 .410 shotshell pistols int eh 50s. They even had a couple with poly chokes on em if i remember right.
Shoot'em close. Less to pick.

They might get my guns, but they'll get the bullets first !

if I'm not mistaken T/C makes one... that would be a sweet gun for grouse!

Personally, while I see the point of "the judge" I am not sold on it. I mean if you want a unique conceal carry, why not just one of these bad boys:

If for no other reason than pulling one out at the clay range might turn heads. Seriously though, I hear they do make a concealed carry holster for the above shotgun. AND its considered an AOW so no special regs.

My 10" 500 with a scope weighs a lot more I'll bet. 5 1/2 pounds. Sure helps with recoil on those 440gr slugs. Wait, thats heavier than my shotgun loads.

This is the Taurus Judge. I have shot it and it's not very impressive at all. It fires .45 Colts along with the .410. The .45 rounds do shoot well. Howeva, being that there is no choke, the .410 rounds are pathetic. Talk about a scatter gun. 20 feet away with #8's there were 2 pellets in the 14"x22" target.

Everything I have read about the Judge says its garbage unless you want to use it as a snake-gun. A 410 doesn't have enough energy to penetrate far enough to kill and since the Judge only fires 2 1/2" shells (which are incredibly difficult to find at local stores) there is only 3 pellets in a 2 1/2" 410 '00' buckshot.

Good to know, I had not read that/seen that posted anywhere before. I would still think that it would be less than ideal for anything other than snakes.

Davis, I think makes/made a derringer in 45.70/.410 has a bit of a bite no matter which shell you run through it.

If you put some 4 shot in it and used it during a car jacking, it would be great. Nothing says get away from my car like 4 shot in your eyes. You could also alternate .45 and .410 to make it slightly more effective on a variety of ranges.

But I agree, to me its not really worth it. My 45 ACP would also be useful in a carjacking and is a much more versatile self defense gun.
