It really depends on teh distance. If you are talking about 70 yards, that owuld be the limit of waht i woudl try to use a .22 for. Anything beyond that and you will not have a clean kill.

But i am working under the assumption you are talking about a .22 LR and not a 22-250 or something comparable.

I have seen dogs killed with a 22 Mag up to 100 yards pretty consistently.
Shoot'em close. Less to pick.

dont know much about the .22,s but i shoot federal splitfire hyper-velocity long rifle, hollow point, 31 grain, copper plated 1500 fps. should there be a diffrent round that i should shoot. it is a very old tube fed .22 that i shoot semi auto.

IT is really a moot point with a .22 to talk about "knockdown power". There is really no round that is head and shoulders above the rest.

What i nromally reccomend to mu buddies is to find a hollow-point round that your particualr gun shoots well. Some people dont believe it, but different guns shoot different rounds better. Get you a mixture of different .22 HPs and try them and see which one groups the best.

no more than 75yrds, my gun shoots remington HPs the best(models 67a winchester)I"ve killed yotes with it(2 of em) but i dont shoot em in the heart and lungs, i just put one either through the forehead, or in the ear from a 90 degree angle, so i either destroy the frontal lobe of the brain, or the temporal lobe,
