Ruger P89 Pistols

Why do some magazines say that they will only work in certain ser number p89's?

I have a DC version and 2 regular versions, one from 1993 and the other two are newer, the DC has a different barrel link and guide rod and this barrel and guide rod will not function in the older one at all. but the older barrel and guide rod functions great in the newer one.

I can put the entire safety versions slide on the de-cocker frame and function is great. if I put the DC slide on the safety versions frame it will not cycle at all.

on a visual inspection I can not see any difference to the frames at all.

Could it hve to do with the Clinton gun ban? That would be my guess. How do the 89s shoot, I have an old 85 that my father gave me as a h.s. graduation present. Put a couple thousand rounds through that gun.
