Is the barrel worn? Is the stock rubbing the barrel anywhere, thats a good load and good caliber but it should punch paper better than that.
35 Whelen

225 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip or Partition bullet, 53.0 grains IMR 4320 powder, Federal 210 primer, Winchester case. MV 2,417 fps in 24" barrel. (Based on the Nosler Reloading Guide, Fifth Edition.)

250 grain Nosler Partition bullet, 51.0 grains IMR 4320 powder, Federal 210 primer, Winchester case. MV 2,411 fps in 24" barrel. (Based on the Nosler Reloading Guide, Fifth Edition.)

One of these might help but do it on your own accord and use a manual. That way you cant blame me later  They should be safe less than max loads.

all my whelens i have i cant see the need for handloading. i have dies for that caliber but i hvant reloaded for it at all. i suld also say that i shoot iron sights so clover leafs are practically obsolete. i shoot 225 trophy bonded's through my carbine pump and 200gr corelokt through my carbine auto.
