Just starting to get the bug. I'm starting to look around and just wondering what was available.

Savage 22 250 Model 10 is what I bought I really like it. What range and target are you gonna be shooting?

For the Country hes in I would suggest a Rem. 700 with a Bull Barrel. And a nice variable scope to top it. I would think something with a top end of at least 10 power would work.

If you hike alot or there is alot of time between shots then forget the Bull barrel and a sporter barrel.

+1

A good ~4-14x scope is ideal on that gun.

My personal choice:

Remington 700 VSF
Leupold VXIII 4.5-14x 50mm Long Range w/varmint reticle.
Leupold Once piece, dual dovetail base with Leupold rings.
Spring kit on the trigger.

It isn't the lightest gun in the safe but it will shoot that is for sure.

I traded all my Remingtons for Savage. Never had a second thought.

I've a few of both, and would rather go 700.
