Just kidding, I got my new/first quality bolt action tonight. Got a really good deal on it. Bought it from my brother, but the funny part is that even though it's his I'm the only one that's ever shot it (just 2 boxes). So theoretically I got a new rifle for a used price.
Try the blue box Federals - while not a 30-06, I was shooting sub 1 inch at 200 yards with my .243. That's better then the Hornady ammo I had - it shot about 1-1/2 to 1-3/4 inches at 200. This was all out of a brand spanking new Rem 700 I bought at Wal mart. I put about 200 rounds thru the gun and then traded it.
Hard to beat a mauser action, especially one chambered for 30-06. Great action, great round. Gun will last you a lifetime.
It's a fact that 70 percent of the people who purchase heavier tackle do so with the categorical I just lost a huge snook! Einstein Hairdo. The other 30 percent have either Tarpon Fever or are sporting a hand cramped into a claw from a deepwater grouper.
