Advice needed on which telephoto to use

Postby REM1100 » Sun Sep 15, 2013 12:36 am

I need advice on which telephoto to bring on my Sask hunt in the blind 55-200 f4-5.6 sharp fast focuser but a little weak 75-300 f4.-5.6 locks on focus pretty good and sharp or a big 400mm f5.6 which is good if you lock on I will have the ISO set on auto. of course I will have the 18-55mm for stack-em shots.

For a layout I'd go with what focuses fast. That 300 is probably your best bet in my opinion but if you guys are finishing birds then you won't need anything more than even the 200. I shot a 150-500 in Alberta last year and actually had to move my blind 40 yards behind the shooters because I was way too close, and was really wanting a 70-200L IS II on that trip

I have been contemplating something similar. I have a 50-250 and a 100-400. I haven't used the 100-400 much, and wonder if I would be better of with the other lens as I think it is a bit faster.

I wound up using the 70-300 as the field of view was wider and the geese were in fields that filled up a quarter section and the birds were mostly singles finishing.
