Good luck, I am an 0861 Marine. This is the same MOS as an Army 13F. You will be working with lots of computors and guns. You will have to know everything about artillery, mortars and close air support along with your normal infantry stuff. The good part is you get to blow crap up when you arn't stuck behind a computor or a .50 cal. Good luck with it. Semper Fi

Ha ha, dont worry about it. I absolutly hate computors but I have done countless courses on these systems and seem to operate them just fine. Good luck.

My 17 year old son just finished his enlistment for 13F. He will be headed to Fort Sill in June. Like him, keep your head down and listen to your Sergeants.

Have fun at Sill it is gonna be hot as hell! I was at A btry 1-40. I loved being a Fister it was the best(only reason I re-classed was casue of my wife and her medical needs) I miss the sound of artillery and when you feel the ground shake after the HE rounds go off. You dont use many computers as a 13F mainly radios(to call for inirect fire). OSUT will suck since it is AIT and Basic all in one. Drop me a PM some time to ask any questions you may have.

Ive been playing Army for 8 years now, did 6 years enlisted and now fly Apaches. Dont worry about the computers, they will teach you everything you need to know. I have meet a lot of good FISTERs, fun group of guys. If you want, you can go Airborne and do all those courses as well. Shoot me a PM if you got any questions. And the duck hunting in Oklahoma is great.

Best piece of advice about the Army I was ever given was "if you aren't getting everything out of the Army (i.e schools, classes, duty stations) the Army is getting everything out of you...."

And most of all, don't be a s**tbag.

Well if your going to go the airborne way (jump out of planes), start working towards running 4 miles at a 9 min/mile pace. If not, I'd suggest work on getting your run to about 7 min/mile for 3 miles, it will put you at a better pace for running the 2 mile PT test. When you do run the 2 miler for score/test reason, run your heart out and don't think about it. push yourself when it hurts, pain really is in the mind (for the most part). I'm not saying run full speed from the start, just know what your natural run pace is and push a little bit more. That's a part of being a soldier, knowing your limits and pushing to achieve more.
Most Common phrases out of a duckers mouth:
Why couldn't you have been born a duck!!!
OH S*&T, DUCKS!
Damn tweedy bird, you about got shot.
There's a whole bunch of duc..oh wait, tweety birds.
I about turned this mosquito into a duck
I just got ate up

Best advice for cardio, short fast runs, longer slower runs , and sprints. Start out a week with a 4 mile medium pace run, next day run sprints(i.e. 30/30 and 30/60), next another 4 mile medium pace, next day 3 mile fast run followed by stationary cardio( i.e. jumping jacks, starbursts), and on last day 6 mile slow run. If you do this you will be fine once you head off to basic. Remember when you run to push yourself. Most of the pain will be in your head. learning to block it out now and knowing what is in your head and what is real will help you. 11B ten years Airborne Infantry.

I would have to say my best advice is to listen do as you are told, and act in the absence of orders(ie common sense). And dont worry too much about being in shape, basic training will condition you(but dont go in as a sh*t bag). The trick is to continue doing strenious PT after basic, and dont just do PT once a day, doing it 2 to 3 times a day is great for building endurance. And +1 on all the others advice.

There isnt a better job in all the military! I have been a 13F since 1990 and I wouldnt trade it for the world! Remember you ARE the largest casualty producing weapon your maneuver platoon has.

Good on ya boys. Saint Barbara will watch over you. Godspeed on your mission.
