Had the good fortune of bowhunting sat morning, on the way out did the sprint and flush on a flock of 15 birds. Sat back and waited then called some birds in. Ended up shooting the first two that let me draw on them. One had a 5.5" beard very thin with no spurs but "buttons", the second bird had a 1.5" beard and no spurs but had the same "buttons". The first bird had a bigger beard than a good portion of spring "jakes" that I have shot had.
Has anyone else shot a large "jake" in the fall? Is this simply an early bird born in the spring and the second a late clutch male? They looked the same size, should have put the scale on them. Best of luck to all in the field this fall.
