I havn't shot them through a 20ga but they are wicked in my 12's. They liked to be choked tight. If you don't got a turkey choke for it then go with whatever's tightest. If going with the mod I'd keep in under 30 or less. I got a Win 20ga with a .575 constriction and it gets sparse at 40yrds. I wouldn't even consider a shot over 20yrds with the mod.

X2 on this, The Hevi-13 likes a tight choke if you had the Federal Hevi weight you can get by with more open choke. If you can find a choke around .570-.575 that would be a good place to start if you want to reach to 40 yards and kill a bird but only a patterning board will let you know how far your gun is able to maintain a killing pattern.

I've shot Hevi shot in .410, 20 and 12 guage for turkeys and ALL have GREAT patterns and tremendous knockdown power. As stated, with Hevi 13 my guns seem to like a tighter choke to get it to pattern insane. Too tight and it'll blow the pattern up but for the most part, tighter the better. And I've killed em with both 3" and 2 3/4" Hevi shot on turkeys in 20 guage. Yeah it can be a bit pricey but if you can find some buddies maybe can get a few different loads and try them out?

X2 My boys shot many turkeys with a mossy 500 youth model and winchester 3" no.5's it had an excellent pattern out to 35 yards with the factory full. I still shoot lead out of my turkey gun with excellent results. I'm not ready to buy into the hevi shot thing. Turkeys are really pretty easy to kill.

shooting a 3 inch 20 gauge with a Kick gobbling thunder in my wifes gun with heavy 13s and it does ok out to 35 after that it drops quick on bbs to head ratio... She did kill one at 50 steps with it last spring as she missed her first shot at 25 yards. LOL

we keep it 30 and under with any gun all the fun is inside 30 yards anyways..

Long about 05 and 06 I shot H 13 6s out of the 20 with really good results 140s at 40 yards in a 10 inch circle.. In 07 I believe it was a component in the load was changed sending many folks scrambling to get their patterns back, many never did.. 2010 Hevi came out with the 7s and the numbers went back up.. The 7s are much easier to get to pattern well and most shooters get somewhere between 140 and 180 in a 10 ring at 40.. With your 6s I would highly recommend you getting a turkey choke of some form even a cheap one.. Might be a an issue with the lack of popularity of the BPS in the 20 and the corresponding lack of budget chokes produced by manufactures.. Find something in the 570 range for that load.. If you want to get really good performance purchase a Pure Gold, Indian Creek or Sum Toy..

If you want the ultimate 20 gauge load go with the Fed HW 7s.. Testing them in 3 Rem 20s last year, all liked to be choked very tight 550.. I checked the POI of my Rem 20 with a SSX 550 and HW 7s at a taped 40 yards the other day.. I was so shocked I re taped and re counted. . LOL

I used to think Hevi-shot was a bunch of over rated over priced stuff until I tried it and patterned it. I have been trying to get my daughter on a bird for 3 seasons now and wanted her to have every advantage she could have. So I bought a box of 3" Winchester Supremes #5's and some Hevi shot Magnum Blend with the 5, 6, and 7. There is absolutly no comparision. Hevi Shot blows them away by far. She is shooting a 20 guage and the Hevi Shot gives her a lot better bb's in kill zone and also another 10 yard range. I'm convinced on Hevi-Shot magnum blend.

very late update, left the bps 20 ga at home for spring season, took the A5 mag stalker. over the summer, got a Carlsons turkey choke and a 22" barrel for the BPS, patterned 2 shots @ 35 yards, do not remember pellet counts but there were enough holes in the paper plate to equal a dead gobbler. the birds i've killed have all been 35 and under.
thanks for all the feedback.
