This may be old hat for guys that have hunted longer than me but I learned something this weekend. My daughter and I had a dozen hens walking in our decoys for about 30 minutes. I didn't call while they were there thinking that I had "live decoys" and didn't want to scare them off -- maybe a hold-over from duck hunting. We could hear some gobbling around us and waited and waited for the toms to come but they didn't. I went decided to hit the box call and the hens in our decoys started yelping like crazy but stayed put. Within 10 minutes we had 7 jakes and two longbeards in our laps.
Lesson learned, if the hens aren't yelping, they aren't helping (how do you like that rhyme?)
