Lady scores her first thunder chicken ... !

Postby Pouledeau » Mon Mar 26, 2012 10:22 am

Well. She said she wanted a gobbler for her birthday ... it was a pretty typical turkey hunt, 2 botched jobs with birds at less than 10 yards and somehow slipped the gun; tons of walking; couple of snakes. Then in the early afternoon I somehow called six birds across the river. I've heard of it happening, but having grown up on Eastern's, I'd have never believed it unless I saw it myself.

Got her into position to take a bird and this big ole Tom slipped up on us from behind. She pulled it off, and threaded a 3" magnum no. 4 loaded with lead through some of the thickest, nastiest stuff I've ever seen.

And what do you know ... he's got three beards. Not bad for her first bird ... !

Congrats on the turkey! What was her reaction with the snakes? 3 beards, got the trophy out of the way first!!!! Ya, they will come over riviers, lakes, roads and other obstacles and sometimes they will hang up for apparently no reason at all. It was that birds day to die and you were there. Congrats again!

Pretty tame reaction to the snakes actually. Just a couple of rat snakes and I saw them first ... so we evaded the screaming ... ! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ...

I had an Eastern get hung up behind a trickle of water running down a hill once in Alabama after a big downpour the night before. Infuriating, but ... you gotta love them Rio's ... !

She ruined for sure, she's already picked out the plaque she wants the tail on. I'd have mounted the bird flying for her but: he'd busted some primaries, and she's all hot and bothered about fried turkey, rice and eggs ... so ... to the fryer he goes.

We're gonna try and get a few more this weekend ... ! Good luck guys ... !
