What kind of calls do you like?

Postby Wingbuster58 » Thu Aug 30, 2012 5:27 pm

I know its a long time untill spring turkey, but I wanna hear from my fellow turkey hunters! What kind of calls does everybody use? Do you have a favorite brand or a certain call with a lot of sentimental value? Let me know! Lets see some pics of your favorite calls!

My personal favorties are the woodhaven diaphragm calls. They served me well this January at the Texas state contest and in the turkey woods. Not a direhard friction man, but I like my Flextone glass call.

I picked up a turkey thugs mouth call this year and called in a 23lb bird with right over a 9 inch beard. Seemed like it was really easy for me to control. Of course im always a fan of the power crystal.

I've always like the HS Strut diaphragm calls, although I'd like to try Hendershot Game Calls and 1 Up Game Calls this season. My buddies Godfather owns 1Up and to hear him on them they sound pretty good

I've always had good luck with HS mouth calls but Quaker Boy's are great to.I have some friction call's and locators but IMO a few mouth calls are all you really need.

Quaker Boy Screamin Green or Tru-Tone calls out of MO for this guy. Took a MONSTER 4+ year old, double bearded bird last spring running the T-T 3 reed bat wing. Great calls and the owner is a great guy too. I won a couple custom pot calls and a couple Hooks pots last spring that'll get a work out this comming spring too. Here's the bird that came in to some AGGRESSIVE calling on the T-T bat wing. Came in dead silent and took a load of #7 Fed. Heavy Weights from my "Little Monster" 20 gauge 870...never even flopped.

I like to start with H.S. Strut glass call and or a youth DD HS Strut diaphragm call if I get no response I'll use Night and Hale hammer or other high frequency friction call then when the gobbler is close I'll switch to a mouth call.

Every hunt I use a 20 year old H.S. glass call I've had to re-glue and a mouth call usually H.S. Strut or Mad Calls, why change if it's working! :grooving:

I didn't even know they stopped making them. I haven't bought anything but diaphragms since I got it 15 years ago. Looks like it will have to last me another 15+ years!
