Anybody reload there own turkey shells

Postby callumcuffumkillum » Thu Mar 28, 2013 7:06 am

I have a buddy who reloads his own shells using #8 tungsten. I know tungsten enables you to use smaller shot with equal knockdown power of larger lead. I think #7 tungsten is equal to #3 steel but i dont know how it compares to lead but it is better than lead. With the amount of pellets he is able to put in a shell, he is able to literally able to tear a piece of paper to shreds at 50 yds. Anybody else try reloading with tungsten or other shot?

#8 tung would be equatable to 7 1/2 lead maybe almost #6 lead.
....its like taking x-lax when you have a bad cough. It wont clear up your lungs, but it sure stops you from coughing

Depends on what "tungsten" means, if he's loading what I think he's loading. 18g/cc tungsten, then #8s are like #3 lead in energy, but you get 260 per ounce instead of 1/4 that.

I shot this turkey yesterday with #9 tungsten (18g/cc) out of a 28 gauge at 33 yds .

Number 8s (18g/cc) will drop a fair sized hog at 40 yds like a "sack of taters".

You don't want to know how far they'll kill a turkey.

I've taken a fair number of turkeys with #4 lead reloads.

It's real easy to do with a $100 investment in equipment -- scales, roll crimp die, and hull vise. The hard part is coming up with the load data, but I give it to whoever gets any of the 18g/cc shot from me. Just a matter of following the recipe.
