Anybody use the woods?

Postby shoot-n-goose » Tue Mar 11, 2008 5:50 pm

I'm going to be hunting on 80 acres, 60 of its field and the other 20 is woods. I saw about where the turkeys were roosting during deer season, and i was wondering if finding a small clearing in the woods would be worth it? Does anyone hunt back in the woods?

Yes, opening in the woods are great places to work turkeys, they need to be able to see. Check it out but I bet you will also do well to keep a keen eye on your field edges. The big boy will be hanging out in the open looking all big and tuff

So i think im gonna try the woods if i can find an open area, and probably stick my brother on the field. So then if one of us gets one, the other knows where to go.

Great idea there goose. Just remember that if the bird is either in the fields or the woods the other hunter needs to lay off the calling. No sense in trying to over call one another.

On rainy days stick to the edge of fields, on windy days find a place protected from the wind.

Thanks for all the tips. I had an idea last night. We are gonna be hanging 2 ladder stands when we are scouting for turkey because we have to get them out of the garage, and i was thinking about sitting below the stand, between the ladder and the tree. I was going to put brush around it also to make it into kind of a ground blind
