My First Tom

Postby GCox25 » Mon Apr 21, 2008 6:19 am

Well, fellahs, I finally bagged my first Tom.

Last Saturday, around 3 in the afternoon, we had a nice 2-year old wandering around, looking for love. I even "helped" call him in. I made a few soft yelps on my Ol' Betsy (which, btw, I highly recommend for newcomers. Cheap and very easy to use for a newbie that doesn't know what he's doing, like me!)

I got set up on a tree and my buddy used the mouth call to get him the last 20 yards or so. 20 pounds, 9-1/2 inch beard and one inch spurs. He wasn't a monster, but will do for me.

Will post a picture soon, if I can figure out how to make it work.

Congratulations sir. Welcome the club. That there sure is a nice bird to start off with. It only gets better from here. Soon you`ll be chasing them all on your own.
