I was out scouting one last time for my Son's season opener on Saturday, and I came across two toms at the edge of a cornfield (just in the woods) in full strut. I slowly backed out of there so I didn't spook them. I will admit that they were more engrossed with impressing the hens (that were obviously there, even though I didn't see them), that I really didn't need to be in complete stealth mode. I backed off about 75 yards, and quietly climbed into a ladder stand that is at the corner of the field, and in the edge of the woods a bit. I could hear the hens in there purring and clucking , and occasionally a tom would gobble. This is when I saw something I have yet to witness in the wild, but just saw this on an old episode of Marty Stouffer's "Wild America" about a month or so ago. I had an inferior tom come out to the field, and do a mock hen mount. It sat on the sidelines and masturbated while the obvious boss tom was getting some action. At first I thought I had missed the hen that was under him, because I was looking at his back side, but when he was through (after about a minute), he was definitely alone. Interesting to witness, just wondering if anyone else has seen this behavior. He was an adult bird, because I could see his fan was a full half circle, so I know it wasn't a jake. Hopefully my son takes out this perverted bird in the morning!
