No Luck Merriams Snow Hunt Northern NM

Postby bluewing77 » Sun Apr 19, 2009 3:30 pm

i dont have much time available to hunt the gobbler this season, so when it snowed the night before i arrived at my buddy's up in Rociada, NM, (elevation 7500 ft.) there was nothing we could do about it except go hunting. heard a few gobbles, never saw a bird. hope you guys did better than us!

geared up and cold. packing the '59 Mag 12 in ankle (in some places shin) deep snow.

saw lots of tracks, and a few of these "fly away" marks.

I used to have a friend that would sum up our hunt when we got goose egged with, "I guess this is why they call it hunting and not killing". Nice taste in shotguns, I like where your heads at!

Wow turkey hunting in the snow. It's hard for me to even imagine. I've never hunted anything in the snow, it's come close but mainly it was just cold.

yeah it was fun alright. the only thing missing was a big ole tom slung over our shoulders on the way out!

this isnt the first time we've had to put up with snow, 2 years ago we had to postpone the first weekend hunt because of 12+ inches the day before season opened. that same storm dumped 8 inches at my house, about a 2 hr drive SSW of rociada.

hhmm maybe need to invest some snow camo gear??
