Postby Gooseboy » Sat Nov 05, 2005 4:22 pm

How many shells do you guys bring out on a duck hunt? Our limit here is six so i need, what six, seven on a bad day?   . I usually fill up my shell pouch which holds 24 but i never use close to that.
The group ended up with 420 birds.

75 or 100 on opening. Our limits here are quite high and some bird spieces like swan have no limit.

On opening day I normally pack a dry box with 6 or 7 boxes of shells and leave it in the boat all season. I'll add boxes when I get low.

2 boxes, rarely use close to that but I'd rather not take the chance.

Postby smokin gun » Sat Nov 05, 2005 7:36 pm

I always fill my (BIG) pockets with as many shells as I can. Ya never want to run out ,and just have to watch the geese land in front of you.
(been there....done that).

I'll bring out 7 or 8 boxes for a weekend but have never gone through more than 3 boxes in a weekend. Better to be safe than sorry.

I usually put one box for ducks in one side of the hunting jacket and one box for geese in the other. I would sure like to see a day when I used all of the ones I take out, especially the goose loads!

Holy Moly,
I usually take my shell belt with 25 shells. If I cant kill 6 birds with that,I should probably practice up on my shooting skills. You too!

We all chipped in at the beginning of the season and bought 5 cases. Season opener was 24 Sep and we have 4 boxes left. Just kidding :hammering:

Seriously though, I usually fill my ammo belt which holds 24. That usually consists fo 18 3½inch 3 shot and 6 3½inch BBB (We have not been seeing that many geese). I have yet to shoot my belt empty.

i usually take 3 or 4 boxes. while i never actually shoot that many...i don't ever want to run out either. it is not an uncommon occurance for me to end up wasting 10 shells trying to finish off a cripple so my dog can make a retrieve and i don't have to go pick him up 10 miles downriver cuz' the tide/current carried him out while he was chasing a wounded bird.

I take 2 boxes in my blind bag usually ecspecially when we layout shoot, never know hom many shots we are going to have on cripples, and for instance, my buddy while in Canada dropped a full box of shells in the drink out of the layout boat, he was glad I had brought 2 bozes I'll tell you that :toofunny: Also a fun thing is when we take guys on their first layout shoot they really don't know what to expect, the best we have on record was 27 rounds and finally got his first bird on shot 28!How is that for shooting LOL, If I can't do 6 birds in 12 shots I personally am very upset, but it happens to the best sometimes
