High winds hunting.

Postby Wags » Sun Nov 06, 2005 11:46 pm

I went out Sunday morning near the lake in the marshes of Ottawa County. Wow, at first driving in I almost turned around and headed back home because the wind was blowing me all over 80E, semi's also. Radio said gusts to 60mph? Not sure what they were but they were strong! By 0545 the wind had slowed down and to the blind the 5 of us headed.

Started out slow until the wind started to pick up again and pushed the dekes off the lake to calmer waters. We had 3 Hen Mallards land and we took full advantage. Saw a few Pintails but they always kept going. Geese were flying in abundance but way high and on the move.

Surprised we had any activity due to the high winds. Our senior guy was optimistic and he was right! Had to leave early so didn't see what the rest of the morning/afternoon brought to the other guys.
