Right now I am using a either a 5wt. 8 1/2ft. med. diamondback or a med/fast 5wt. 8ft. Cortland rod (depending on the water and the flies I'm using) , STH reel, and the newer 555 line with the high floating tip. This spring I'm going to buy a JP Ross rod in a 5wt.

Personaly I use NZ made as they are designed for small water delicate presentation but can handle big fish and the velocity of our steep rivers. I use a 4/5 for small fish or dry fly work, 6, 6/7 and an 8 for big rivers and lakes. Im also looking to get a 2wt. I find the ultra 4 to be the best fly line. And reel type isnt important.

Kiwi, my wife is over your way at the moment, she is attending the World Indigenous Peoples Conference on Education, I believe near Auckland. i was scheduled to do some flyfishing in NZ while she was working, but plans changed and i stayed behind in Canada. Maybe next time.
