12 lb test can get you by when trolling or fishing deeper open water with crankbaits, but you might want something a little heavier when twitching a zara spook over a weedbed. Good lures to try are large inline spinners, daredevle spoons (red and white in clear water, yellow 5 of diamonds in murky water), large swimbaits, large jointed crankbaits, buzz baits, super spooks, etc. Notice I said "large" for almost all of these lures, even a small pike, or hammerhandle will bite on a 12" jointed crankbait. It takes a heavy rod though to cast some of these heavier baits so given the tackle you have to work with I would stick with the lighter spinners. Anything flashy, colorful, and fast will get a pikes attention. They hunt by sight not smell so leave the Berkley Powerbaits and the Uncle Josh pork trailers at home and throw something that is colorful and has alot of vibration and/or noise. Good luck.
treat every situation like a dog. If you cant eat it or hump it just piss on it and walk away
