Im goin to be building a new pond for duck hunting in a pasture, I want it to be about 12-24 inches deep and then have water control piping, but what ewuipment would be the best suited for doing the task? Would a skid steer work or would i need a backhoe or excavator?
Its a crp pasture no trees or anything its a loam clay mix. Basically there are two low spots that drain into a pond that hold water i want to put a small levee and then have a downward slope to the levee with a water control structure. the deepest itll be is 3ft and the shallowest would be six inches with an island in the middle im pretty sure a skid steer would suffice but i just want to be sure and i dont want to be damaging any equipment if its too hard of a job and if a back hoe is needed i can prolly get ahold of one.
For no deeper than your digging and your soil type, a skid loader will be fine. I've dug one pond with a skid loader and we're getting ready to dig another one. Just work within the limits of the machine and you'll be fine. Good luck, hope it works out for you.
