spinners for divers

Postby LBeinhaur » Sat Nov 27, 2010 10:41 am

Wondering if any of you guys use any kind of spinning wing decoy for divers. I have 3 of the wind powered ones and am thinking of painting one up as a bluebill and making up a long pole or something for it?

A Hunting buddy of mine painted an old mojo up like a bull wistler, the whitlers and bills love it only problem is we need to long of a stake to use it in some good spots.
I have a floating Mallard robo that ive hunted divers with once this year and shot some ring necks and whistlers with and they decoyed great.
Headed out in the morning with it again so ill let you know how we do.

The Mergs Loved the Spinner This morning at Carmi. All we saw were Mergs and we could have shot more but stopped at 8 because we wanted a buffer to wait for some Whistlers or Bills but dint see any.

They might get my guns, but they're gonna get the bullets first!!

You do know that mergs don't count towards your regular duck limit in VT  But in NY they do.......

I do know that, but the person I was hunting with is new to duck hunting and not very good with I.D.ing Birds and with my luck we would have a mixed flock and he, or even me, would shoot a hoodie thinking it was somthing else and we had our ten Mergs already. I was surprised we dint see anything else.
We did see two Mallards at the beach on the north shore while driving home!

If I paint up a spinner, what color should the back and body be? I have never shot one so I don't know what the bosy looks like with the wings extended.
