if i had the cash i would go with Columbia they make great anything! i have a ski coat and serval casual wear jackets and zero problem from them!

but if you have a smaller buget i would go with Cabela's or Drake. never had my 2 drake jackets let me down! i sat in pouring rain for 3 hours with my Drake jacket on and came out bone dry! never gotten wet in my Cabela's bibs either that I also use for skiing.

I found Columbia has worked the best for me, keeps me warm and dry. Its no fun being cold.

It's a little on the pricey side but Beagle Outdoor Wear is amazing. I bought the "Extreme" coat and pants to wear sea duck hunting in Maine and if you do any cold weather hunting they are worth every penny. I have been out in -20ºf with freezing sea spray and it feels like your wearing a warm pair of pajamas. As long as I'm warm and dry I will stay out all day. With my old gear just as soon as I got wet and cold it wasn't fun anymore. I also like the fact it is made in the USA. All my hunting buddies thought I was crazy for spending $400 on a coat and another $300 on pants but after letting two friends wear the gear for a day both have gone out and bought their own.
He who laughs last didn't get it.

I use the Yukon Gear one. Bought it here for under $100. Wildernessbarn.com. My buddy has a drake and it's really nice, but 3x the cost.

I retired my 15yr old Columbia Wigeon after a couple good soakings last season.
I went with Sitka this time around and won't be looking back.
There's simply no good reason to be hunting cold, wet and miserable at my age.

The old Columbia 4-in-1 coats used to be the best, but they've continually raised the price and added stuff to it to where it's so much bulkier and heavier than it used to be. About 10 years ago, I would've recommended it, but there are so many good jackets out there nowadays that it's tough to justify the price of them anymore.

It really depends on what type of hunting you do and where you live. If you wear waders and/or hunt in flooded timber, Drake makes several different wader coats that you can tuck inside your waders. Here in Arkansas, it's just not cold enough for a long enough period of time to buy a big jacket. I usually just layer up, which tends to be much more comfortable, and it's easier to shed layers.

Filson, I know it's pricey but it will last you a lifetime. Had mine for 15 years and its still as good as new.

Herters fowltech parka in the old brown camo served me great since 99. Last year I got caught in a storm and discovered it is no longer waterproof. Tryin a beretta extreme ducker this year.

they say its not bulky its because its not and you have to wear couple layers underneath it then it becomes bulky. ive yet to have it out in a full rain to find out if I will stay dry.

I've had my Columbia Widgeon for over 20 years and it still looks and functions like new. That was back when they are made with Goretex. Perhaps the current model is not as durable.

it 's nice stuff, but no way am I paying that much for a coat, jacket, or bibs when comparable gear is readily available for 1/4 the price.

I calculated what I have in my (everything I wear at one time when its dang cold) waders, wader coat, base layers, jacket, wader pants, and socks and it comes out a few dollars less than what only the Sitka gear coat costs.

I see your point, however....the question wasnt; "What Jacket is the best bargain?" It was, what's the best duck hunting jacket

I'll be getting a new jacket before long too, so this thread is of interest to me. Like others, I'm a little put off by the price of the Sitka jacket. What is it that makes this one the best?

I've had a browning grand passage for years now and it's been a great jacket. The neoprene around the cuffs is starting to unravel. But, after having it nearly 10 years I'm not complaining. Last year I bought the Columbia wader widgeon shell and liner. I've only worn it a couple times and have been happy so far.
