If you had only $400 to spend on goose decoys

Postby Swampfoot » Fri Feb 11, 2011 11:48 am

What would you get. I bought 1/2 dozen bigfoot B2s and only want to spend about $350-$400 more on decoys before next season.
I am thinking about 6 full size Big Foots ($195.00) and maybe 1 dozen GHG pro series oversized shell decoys ($190.00). That way I have some motion and a full 2 dozen decoys. What would you guys do if you were in my situation?

I forgot to mention that I am talking about decoys for Canada Geese, not snows.

8 dozen Real Geese silhouette "seconds" if you call the company they sell the seconds for $50 a dozen (at least they did a few years ago) the seconds are just minor printing cosmetics, and can only be seen in hand. We have killed a TON of geese over sillys. my $.02

Cabelas has a sale going on right now,on GHG oversized full bodies, but you are only getting 6 decoys in the harvester pack,***** Sporting goods in Rutland has a box of GHG oversized shells for 135.00,and that is a dozen, but all you really need is a dozen to two dozen decoys,I mixed mine up,I have FA full bodies,GHG full bodies, and two dozen GHG shells, any more than that is over kill for around here,imo.....but I also bought a bunch of used decoys from websites like Avery,Foiles, duck chat,...they all have classifieds and you can wheel and deal, alot of guys are changing over too Dakota full bodies, trying to sell thier Bigfoots,or getting new ones, upgrading, you can get some good buys and you can buy flocking kits for around 10.00! So you can repair your used decoys for fairly cheap! Also I always search yard sales for decoys, one or two geese fullbodies that were yard orniments, they are just faded, spray paint and a flocking kit and you are working with usable decoys! The old bigfoots before they came out with all the flocking and new type of paint, they worked back then, they will still work now, invest 30.00 and you are in business,I have 1/2 a dozen old bigfoots that I touched up,and I kill geese every year, and use those decoys!

You should buy my dozen HardCore full bodies ( with motion bases ) and have money left over. Only used 3-4 times. Will throw in one 6-slot Avery bag.

I had not posted them in the classifieds because I had not really thought about it until I saw this thread. Seems like a good idea though, I will post them there.

Wyatt: I didn't see your ad in the classifieds. How much do you want for the decoys? Are they flocked heads? (I am not familiar with Dakota decoys).

Swampfoot,

I put an ad in the Vermont classifieds section near the top of the Vermont home page yesterday ( not under Free classifieds) viewtopic.php?f=60&t=121605 It is the last one listed as of this afternoon. The heads are flocked. These are not Dakotas, they are made by HardCore. They are great looking decoys. http://www.hardcoredecoys.com/subCats.cfm?catID=5
