Non resident start date

Postby cam liden » Sat Jul 23, 2011 8:13 am

Hey guys, I spent a year at SDSU, and transferred, but I had to come back to shoot some ducks. I got drawn for my non resident license with a start date on Oct. 25. The GFP just changed their rules so now you can change your start date, so is this a good start date to catch the last of the local birds and the beginning of the migration? I can change it anytime before the 25th, so should i just wait and watch the weather reports? Also, how much competition should i expect during that part of the season?

The 25th should be a good date to start. I will not guarentee it though. Your best bet is to watch the weather and talk to some people around where you plan to hunt and go from there. I have friends coming up to hunt this year and we are looking at about the same week.

The week of Thanksgiving is almost always our best week of the year except for opener.

I hunt almost all of eastern SD. The closer you can hunt to Thanksgiving the better it will be. But it is a crap shoot though. If we get a early winter they can move through in a hurry.
