The 17 HMR is a 22 WMR (22 mag) necked down to 17 caliber. The 22HM2 is a 22LR necked down to a 17 caliber. Ammo is a lot lot harder to find for the HM2 than the HMR

It's pretty damn flat. Flatter than the 22WMR and mine shoots dead on out to 100. According to Hornady the 17gr drops 8.5 inches at 200, so it's probably 3-4" low at 150 if you're sighted at 100. I'm not a fan of the 17 for coyotes though, too light of a bullet and it tends to break up without penetrating much.

Coyotes are varmits, vermin and the scum of the earth to some, but even they deserve a fast death and the little
.17 bullet is a great squirrel and rabbit load but I just don't think it was ment for Yotes.

They deserve at least a .222.

With a good shot you will drop a yote at 200 with the 17hmr I do it all the time. You just have to go to the rang and put a lot of rounds doun it so you know your gun.At a 100 it puts a good hole in them!Well not as good as the 22-250 but.
