bimini fittings and emt

Postby jonathanmorris8 » Thu Oct 20, 2011 9:29 am

How are you guys fitting your EMT into the bimini fittings? I can't seem to get it to fit. I've even tried to drill it out just a little but can't seem to make that work either. Any tips or suggestions? Thanks

I just fit mine yesterday. 3/4" emt and 7/8" bimini fittings. I just used my dremel and a sanding bit and took some out of the outside eye fitting and smoothed it out with a half round file. It was still tight, but I tapped it on with a rubber mallet.

i had access to a lathe and did it that way. I was told by others that you can use a heat gun or a dremel to make them fit.

A heat gun. It expands the plastic, emt slides right in.

I took a propane torch/heat gun and heated the EMT, then slip the bimini hardware on. It worked great, almost seemed like a little weld when it cool also.

My blind spans 12' with no problem. I just filled the gap with 1/2" emt inside the 3/4 emt to strengthen it. Follow the blind instructions in the PDF from Ichabod, they are great.
