scouting reports

I don't want to know where your honey hole is, but I'd love to hear generally what others are seeing out there.

I am in North Central, WV, near Morgantown. we are seeing very few puddle ducks on all of our scouting trips. Seeing a fair number of divers - ruddy ducks for the most part - but so few mallards that it makes me wonder if next week's season will be a bust!

thanks for sharing.

direct opposite here. Have been seeing almost all mallards and a surprising number of black ducks mixed in. Quite a few ducks around with alot of large groups. Few coots and wood ducks hanging around. Spot is looking good for monday as long as the warm weather and rain doesnt mess it up

today's scouting trip was better, but hardly good. managed to find 1-2 dozen mallards across various locations, as well as some coots. going to be a short hunt tomorrow but gonna try it anyway!

haven't been able to scout the bigger rivers very thoroughly, though - that may be better.

hunted over a pond where we saw a half dozen mallards yesterday. they flew in in the area before legal shooting light, but were evidently headed elsewhere. have to be pretty desperate to set up on a spot where all you've seen is 6 mallards, anyway. maybe later in the week...!

2 hen mallards, 1 drake mallard, 1black duck, 1 drake GWT, and 1 hen ringneck were taken by myself and another. Was a good way to kick off the season. Lots of birds just didnt want to work too much today. Hopefully they will tomorrow in the rain.

Three mallards, missed a 4th, they flew in breaks in the down pour, drying out now for the morning.

I'm up in North Cetral area. New to hunting so skunks are par for the course for me. Bagged a Green Head today. Seen a few but it's been spotty at best up here. Mainly resident population (seem weary). Ton of geese. I'm trying to tune my spread and get better at calling so the few that are here can drop. Finishing up the segment and then heading to VA. Happy hunting.

I hunted monday through thursday. 1st day was the best. Only got out a couple of hours every other day. But it wasnt a bad little season. In my opinion it should be in atleast for 2 weeks.
Whats everyone else think?

Good luck to anyone going out the last day. I"m headed back to PA for thanksgiving. Back to the old stomping grounds. Should have some birds by the end of the week.

I would like to see this season be 2 weeks long. There may not be alot of ducks around but there is alot of different species we killed 9 different species this week.

Yeah this second season was great. I think that there should be a longer second season and the last couple of weeks of january cut off. thats just in my opinion.

The late Jan season pushes the most, mainly the big divers, but dates of season is nothing without the right weather IMHO.

Yeah, I guess if you are out on by the Ohio River then you live for the late season. But by then everything in central WV is frozen so that late season does not do me any good lol.

Who is excited for the next opener. Been in PA the last week and been doing alot of hunting.

Just based on the frame works the USFWS sets up, the flyway councils have to follow. There is input meetings or email the WF biologist to voice your concerns. As far as everything froze, look to the smaller rivers/creeks, you would be amazed;)
